My name is Jadranka, I was born and grew up in which is now Ex Jugoslavia. I lived with my grandparents in a small village within Croatia. My grandmother was always cooking delicious Balkan cuisine. She was a talented cook that made hundreds of tasty plate-wiping food but her homemade Balkan-style bread is unforgettable.
After the war, relocating my family in the UK, I suffered from homesickness. My lovely nan passed away couple of years later and remembered her range of tasty bread and pastry dishes she prepared for me when I was younger. With tears flowing out, the smell of her unforgettable homemade bread was noticed and immediately stopped crying and started to bake.
Through years and years of practise and dedication to baking, I decided it was time to start a business, promoting Balkan-style food in my local area and become a full-time baker. Leading me into this position where I'm happy and enjoy baking.
Balkan bakes is artisan pop up bakery. Everything is produced in our kitchen using the finest, quality ingredients sourced from local farmers whenever possible.
We don’t use any preservatives, dough softeners, artificial colours, sweeteners or even butter! We combined old traditional techniques of making dough by natural slow prove process with healthy, modern stuffing's that you know and love.
We bake on the spot and bake for our loyal clients and friends on their request.
